superstar~
Monday, February 23, 2009 at 6:25 PM

ok as the title implies, i went to check out superstar @ Zirca was this is dan's last sunday and he wanted to go and so did keith, who is actually a clubbing addict although he claims otherwise.

but b4 i do that, here are some pics from dinner a few days ago. or was it ytd? can't rmb la. anyway, the 3 of us went to waraku for dinner. not the pasta one but the real one and the table "mat" was so cute!

instructions to make some origami peacock from our chopstick holder.

so while waiting for our food, dan and keith decided to give it a go.

this is the final product! kinda cute huh?

okay actually that was dan's. keith's one turned out to be like a dying swan.

and that was my wtf expression at keith's handiwork

and food came:

tuna sushi! i dunno why they like tuna so much. so much mercury. i prefer salmon.

and this was my whatever set. some udon and some rice shit. the bowl is so huge you can like drown a toddler in it omg.

apparently this is some pickled shit. but it looks like dead fetuses to me so i refused to touch it

that is cod roe. i thought it was some sausage but apparently not. but it's good shit though!

keith and his dessert.

again i am very perturbed by his behaviour lol

after eating we were so bloated!

and keith suggested doing a retard pose b4 leaving. haha i don't really think he's posing

and now, on to zirca proper:

keith was late as usual, so while waiting:

after we got our free entry, we were aghast to learn that re-entry is not allowed for free entry and that if we went out, we gotta pay cover to come back in. what a gimmick! but anyway we had extra flyers so we just queued again in the end and the bouncer let us in for free again. lol.

then we headed to le noir which is the big swanky place that always attracts expats. keith had a lobang that they had 18 shots for 68++ so we went to check it out and it's so cool!

nice decor!

and as it turns out, the 18 shots promo is called the traffic light and no prizes for guessing why. it's quite cool really. it's just vodka shots plus some fruit juice i'd wager but it works!

and then after we were nicely high, it was back to zirca!

and thus ended our adventure. i still miss fabs. superstar just doesn't seem to fill it's predecessor's shoes

B Coy Cohesion
Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 12:02 PM

ytd i went back to camp for our company cohesion. it was a very last minute rushed thing 'coz tuition was cancelled but i'm glad i went back 'coz they did this placard thingy for all the ORD personnel and here's mine:

they koped the main photo from FB and i was very worried that they'll choose a not-so-decent pic but thank goodness they exercised some restraint. god knows i have pics that should not see the light of day lol. but it was a very sweet gesture and i will miss those guys still stuck in camp. sigh.

Water Chest Ni De Nuts!
Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 2:19 PM

okay as mentioned earlier, i spent Vday watching Chestnuts 09. For those who have no idea what chestnuts is, it's basically a spoof of everything that has happened within the year since e previous show. yes it is an annual thing, with 12 shows under its belt. ever since i watched the last one (for Vday too as it so happens), i have become a rabid fan and will watch every one hence forth.

here are 2 clips from last year's chesty nutty bang bang:

and some of the highlights for this year's (obviously the videos aren't up yet but i'll describe it in detail):

they spoofed the All's Well advertisement (you know the fucking corny hair standish "because i love you"). in their version it was All Swell and it featured a flavoured condom. the dude was like but i want my usual featherlite and the wife was like but this is better for you and then the "because i love you" came out.

and part 2 was the various different fruit flavours for the condoms. some examples - pornstar fruit, i will love you longan time and my favourite water chest ni de nuts lol

and the pervading theme of this yr's show was the spoofing of the little nyonya and it is evident even in their programme:

sigh i laughed so hard it rivalled pink panther 2 in the theatre although i was more controlled. victoria theatre is a tad too atas to be hysterical lol. too bad they only have one a year sigh.

and post show, we trooped down to the area and i must say dymk makes a good place to take spooky pics lol.

i hate V day
Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 2:01 PM

okay i know i haven't mentioned anything about ORD but i don't really wanna dwell on it. NS is over and i wanna move on!

ytd we had our supposed signal spec ORD dinner but like a grand total of 7 pple appeared out of our entire platoon of 40+ pple. it's not a good time with everyone flying off to Aus (sigh) and people sending people off and with the organiser himself stuck in camp (ironically he has a few months more to ORD lol) and smokey stunning us with another gathering somewhere else. oh well.

i guess i have to say it or it won't be real so here goes: ORD LO!

oh and btw, pink panther 2 is hilarious!
it is so johnny english-ish in its slapstick comedy but i love it to bits! i love watching comedies in the cinema 'coz i have the full excuse to just cackle with laughter, much to the embarrassment of my companions. lol. but it's a small price for them to pay for having my company ha! i absolutely loved the part where he kept making all the political and social correctness boo boos like calling the jap detective my "small yellow friend". priceless!

and on to my main point. i hate V day for the usual plethora of reasons - it's overated, commercialised and propagates itself via guilt-tripping. there's an unsaid rule that if you don't celebrate V day, it doesn't show you care for ur partner enough. that's really quite bull crap. if a couple truly cares for each other, either party doesn't require V day to prove it. and there's this pressure on singles too, for they feel left out. there's really nothing wrong being single if one prefers it that way.

i absolutely abhor pple on the streets peddling flowers and soft toys and what shit at exhorbitant prices. and even more irritating is the V day menu at restaurants where nothing else is served. stupid contrived menu for 2 with highly inflated prices.

EVERYDAY should be a Vday for couples.

having said that, i'm gonna go watch chestnuts 2nite and play mahjong. *whee*

momentous day of my life
Monday, February 9, 2009 at 10:52 PM

okay before i begin on the life changing event i did 2day, i shall update a bit what i've been up to lately.

ytd marked my 5th year out of RI. so our class met up!

we really were legendary omg. nostagia is so painful. i wanna go back to RI sigh.

and ms quah is now mdm quah! and a mom to boot! and she rmbs me! i'm so touched. im(sigh i look weird in this pic. must be the baby stealing my limelight)

in addition to the wish list, i also happen to have a movie list and i've watched a few these few days. firstly,

this is a MUST-watch show. nominated for god knows how many awards and that includes ALL four leads:

Meryl Streep - she's not the grand dame of Hollywood for nothing. the scene with her and hoffman in the office when she alone confronts him seriously made my hair stand. that scene alone justifies the ticket price.

Philip Seymour Hoffman - very believable portrayal of a secret pervert masquerading in religious robes.

Amy Adams. she's actually quite pretty even in the nun's habit. and she has that innocence and naivete about her that always seem to land her in these kinda roles (think Enchanted)

and lastly new comer Viola Davis. she's sorta an unknown but she's won an oscar nomination for her powerful portrayal of a mother torn between difficult decisions and her love for her son. you go gal!

and the ending was so poignant. Streep's parting "i have such doubts" was so loaded and i fully believe she was referring to doubt in the church system that ultimately promoted the cheekopek priest. i can so totally relate to that.

and i also watched

nothing much to say about this movie except if you were a fan of the first two, you'll definitely wanna catch the prequel. i watched both the first two but i didn't quite rmb what exactly happened so it wasn't a very meaningful one for me, apart from the sex scenes and the action.

but i did think viktor's eyes and fangs were damn cool. halloween ideas~

and just 2day, i finally did

for all the hype, i found it immensely boring. esp the starting. and it's so goddamn long. like 2.5hours. gave me a headache at the end of it.

but it was worth seeing the makeup and special effects transforming brad pitt from

to

to

and of course the other co star Cate Blanchett is damn hot too

and watching scenes like those made me damn jealous. humph.

and anyway, now for the momentous announcement.

on the day of 09-02-2009, i finally got my tattoo! i finally decided to put it at my hip 'coz i figured a 60yo with an ankle tattoo is just not cool. and that's the preview. it'll turn out much nicer after it's healed.

anyway, the process was a most agonising one. lemme describe it in detail if anyone else is interested in getting one and wants to have an informed decision. upon our (late) arrival at the shop, the artists proceded to confirm our final design on paper to see if we were satisfied before doing a stencil, which they then applied to the area and once we give the go ahead, the inking started.

the inking is insane. first, mine went over the outlines with a fine needle and it felt like a scapel was tracing a cut in my skin. and then came the shading where he switched to like a fucking wide needle. that felt like he was using a bloody machette to scrape off the entire skin. and since mine was near the hip bone, whenever he went near the bone itself, it was so much worse 'coz of resonance harmonics or some shit. my entire hip was vibrating like i was fucking something.

and after the entire thing was done, he applied some nappy rash cream and wrapped it up in plastic with masking tape like i was some cardboard box. and it's fucking sore now. i can't rub anything abrasive across it, i can't really bend my leg, i can't tan for at least 2 weeks and i can't scratch the area when it itches. and also, since it was on my hip, i had to like pull down my pants and he covered the privatish area with a cloth. i, being shy and conservative, felt so awkward!

but oh well, no pain no gain!

my design (if it is not apparent enough) is that of a wolf head howling at the moon. i chose that for various reasons. wolves are, among other things, loyal, intelligent, cunning, social, nocturnal. which i think describes me quite well, if i may say so myself. (unfortunately they also can run very fast and very far, which i think is the only difference between me and them).

i can't wait for it to heal up so i can reveal it in its full glory! and now i'm gonna find some vaseline to slap all over it. ouch.

Monday, February 2, 2009 at 4:42 PM

it was day 5 of CNY and we went to kia liang's house to 拜年:

i dunno why everyone steamboats on CNY but i love it =D

and of course, gambling becomes legal. i <3 mahjong!

i'll miss these dudes when i ord.
although quite a few either ORD with me or have alr done so haha

and then on sat, it was cindy's bday!

we went to this japanese-italian place called saizeriya at liang court. it's not like pasta de waraku kinda jap-italian fusion but like italian food run by japs. confusing huh?

but the food was good! and more importantly, rather cheap. and there was this drink bar - free flow of whatever shit for like $2.50

and they have a kick ass coffee machine!

but the cake was the best of that night. summer lemon apparently it's called. the bed is like biscuit and the green layer is pistachio beneath some lemonish cheesecake layer. must get the address of that shop from mel.

bday gal~
and some shameless bystander haha

P.S. i fully intend to finish all the work i have to do with this week of MC at home. i know i will fail but hopefully i don't fail too badly =/
